PREGNANCY

HOSPITAL BAG CHECKLIST

Below is a list of everything I packed and ended up using for myself + baby!

For me:

  • Button-up pajama top/pants set– I wore these while pregnant and every day at the hospital after delivering. So comfortable! I have also linked the same pair but the short sleeve/shorts set.
  • Nightgown– the most comfortable item I purchased during pregnancy, especially during those last few months when last thing you want to wear is pants.
  • Robe– it was so nice to have my own robe after showering at the hospital
  • Long fuzzy socks
  • Slippers
  • Nursing bras– I love these! Great for breastfeeding while in the hospital
  • Nipple cream– just keeping it real! They will provide this but I wanted to have my own on hand + I love this brand
  • Stretchy postpartum underwear – TMI and I know most hospitals provide disposable underwear, but I wanted to bring some of my own and these are so comfortable! Wore these when I got home as well.
  • Toiletry bag – I got the small and large versions for Christmas and love this brand! Tons of room and compartments inside for extra storage. Brought one for makeup and the other for skincare products. (I will say I didn’t use the makeup bag once, but you may want to just in case!)
  • Toiletries-makeup, face wipes, toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, prenatals, etc.
  • Hairbrush + extra hair ties
  • Comfortable sweats
  • Chapstick– linked my go-to lip balm. Keeps your lips hydrated for hours!
  • Pillow/pillowcase
  • Linen + Room spray
  • Bath towel
  • Blanket
  • Clip on fan– A coworker of mine highly recommended this and I’m so glad she did! It can get warm during the night and coming from someone who loves to sleep with the fan on, this was super helpful to have. Clips easily on the bed rail and can also be used in the summer to clip onto the side of your baby’s stroller!
  • Phone charger

For baby:

The hospital will provide almost everything baby needs (blanket, hat, diapers, wipes, etc.) but I wanted to bring a few items I personally wanted him to wear and use for when we took him home!

  • Sleepsack– the hospital will provide swaddle blankets, but I thought it would be a good idea to bring the swaddle + sleepsack I planned to use when baby sleeps at home to see how it worked for him.
  • Newborn and 0-3 month onesie –  you never know how big or small baby will be, so I would bring one of each!
  • Going home outfit – thought this ‘xoxo’ one was fitting since he was due around Valentine’s Day ( and ended up being a Valentine’s baby) so it was perfect! Affordable and a great gender neutral option. Also comes with name tags to put baby boy’s name on!
  • Extra socks, mittens + hats
  • A few different pacifiers- Jack loves the Bibs brand
  • Portable sound machine– a friend of mine recommended this. Hospitals are full of noises and this can be helpful for baby while sleeping.
  • Baby blanket for the car ride home

Other items:

  • Snacks- I recommend bringing fruit (apples, bananas), nuts and/or trailmix, any of your favorite nonperishable items. Hospitals have menus and vending machines but I’d bring your own to have on hand! Bottled waters as well.
  • Bluetooth speaker– we didn’t end up using but you may want to bring if you plan to listen to any music or specific songs.
  • Nursing pillow- this is the one I nursed with and honestly don’t know what I would have done without it. So much easier than trying to use a million pillows to get you and baby comfortable. Highly recommend this if you plan to breastfeed!
  • Diaper bag – I was told to bring an extra bag or sack for any extra items the hospital may send you home with, so I used my diaper bag.
