STAYCATION: THE ADOLPHUS DALLAS

It’s no surprise that I love to travel, but that doesn’t always mean a boarding pass and a flight need to be involved. This past weekend, John and I stayed at The Adolphus in downtown Dallas to celebrate our anniversary and had an amazing time. Staycations are like mini vacations, because you’re still getting the travel and hotel experience but in the comfort of your own city!

FUN FACT: The Adolphus was the first Grand Hotel to be built in the heart of Dallas in 1912 and Buckingham Palace actually chose this hotel for the official state visit of Queen Elizabeth in 1991. No big deal.

The first thing that caught my eye at The Adolphus was the interior. Sleek and modern with pops of bright colors.

They upgraded us to the Executive Suite, which included a King sized bed in one room and a separate living room area (not pictured).

The bathroom was my favorite part…GOALS.

For breakfast, there are lots of options in or around the hotel.

  • Otto’s Coffee and Fine Foods can be found inside of The Adolphus. Enjoy a nice cup of drip coffee, vanilla latte or a Belgian waffle dipped in Rhubarb jam.

  • City Hall Bistro is a southern european-inspired restaurant inside of The Adolphus and serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. House-made breads and plenty of craft cocktails.
  • Commissary is just a block away from the hotel and is one of the coolest spots downtown. You can’t miss its bright blue-tiled exterior. We ordered the egg sandwich and the coconut oatmeal with roasted bananas. YUM.

Soak in the sun at The Adolpus rooftop pool. We spent most of our afternoon poolside, Pina colada in hand. Such a relaxing day and lots of options on their pool menu. The fish tacos are BOMB.

Another restaurant inside of the hotel is The Rodeo Bar on the first floor next to Otto’s Coffee. If you’re looking for a true Texan-themed restaurant that you can sit back and relax with a burger and a beer, then this is your spot. Lots of Texas decor and very laid back. John and I shared the Texas Chili with the jalepeno cornbread and it filled us up until dinner that evening.

After lounging by the pool for the majority of the afternoon, we headed back to our room to relax before dinner (which was by far my favorite part of the entire stay). We booked a reservation at The French Room and it was the most beautiful dinner I have ever experienced, not only because of the interior.

The menu has 3 options:

  1. A seasonal three-course menu
  2. A seven-course tasting menu
  3. A fifteen-course experiential menu incorporating the Salon, bar and dining room.

John and I each chose to experience the seven-course tasting menu. Just a few of the items we tried included Alaskan prawn, pheasant filled tortellini, wild king salmon and golden beet roots with hazelnut yogurt. The experience ended with Grand Marnier soufflé. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, a dessert cart wheeled up to our table where we were able to choose multiple sweets to take with us back to our room.

Overall, our experience at The Adolphus was more than what we had hoped for and would highly recommend this hotel to anybody looking to experience Dallas in luxury. We had such a fun Anniversary weekend!
