TRAVEL

SAN DIEGO

San Diego has been on my list of places to travel to for a while, and I am so happy I was finally able to go. California is one of my favorite places; beaches, mountains, the city, the Golden state has it all. My friend Ariel recently moved here and as soon as she did, I immediately booked a flight to visit her!

Ariel lives in such a great area; twenty minutes away from everything! Downtown, the bay, La Jolla, Mission Beach and Coronado are all under a half hour from her place so it was perfect.

DOWNTOWN

The first day, we went downtown for brunch and walked around enjoying the city.

We decided to ride these motorized scooters called BIRDs all over downtown and by the bay. BIRD is an app you can download just like Uber, Limebike or Lyft, but you can rent them out as long as you want. As soon as I came back home to Dallas, I saw them everywhere. I guess they popped up as soon as I left, but I’m so glad we have them here now because they are so fun and convenient!

MISSION BEACH

Next stop was Mission Beach. Such a cool spot with tons of small restaurants and gift shops right along the water. We had drinks and an appetizer at World Famous and spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach. Perfect day!

CORONADO

The next day we spent our time in Coronado, which was personally my favorite part of the trip. Beautiful homes, flowers everywhere you look, the beach, people jogging or riding their bikes up and down the streets, fun shops and restaurants, and the famous Hotel Del Coronado.

We grabbed some coffee and a pastry from the shop inside and walked out to enjoy the beach.

We ate at Lobster West and had the yummiest crab, lobster and shrimp rolls! Definitely going back here next time I visit.

LA JOLLA

I quickly learned it’s impossible to do everything in La Jolla in one day, and that’s why I need to come back.

Our first stop: Acai bowls at Fruittitude. I chose the Coconut bowl with a side of peanut butter. So so good.

The seals on La Jolla Cove in the picture above. The main reason we came, of course!

We walked along the water and poked our heads into different stores in town. We had an early dinner at Duke’s, where you can get a great view of the water while you enjoy your food and cocktails. We ordered a few dishes and split them all – fish tacos, steak and salad and the chicken sandwich, paired with a house margarita J. I would definitely order these again!

Others places to try in La Jolla:

-George’s on the Cove

-Oscar’s

I had such a fun trip and I can’t wait to visit again. There are so many things to do and see that I couldn’t fit it all in one trip. Below are some other recommendations I received that I plan to see/do next time!

-Balboa Park

-Torrey Pines (hiking)

-Sunset Cliffs
